The TrueFrames guide

Fire-Rated vs. Hurricane-Impact Doors

Fire resistance and hurricane-impact performance address different hazards. One rating does not establish the other; each required performance must be verified for the selected assembly.

01

Fire-rated openings

The specified fire protection depends on the appropriate door, frame, hardware and any glazing as an assembly. Send the rating and hardware requirements from the project documents to begin the review.

02

Hurricane-impact openings

Impact and wind-performance documentation relates to the exact exterior product and configuration. Review the applicable approval, dimensions and installation conditions rather than relying on appearance or material.

03

When more than one requirement applies

Tell us every performance requirement at the quote stage. Do not assume an independently rated component establishes compliance for a combined assembly. The selected system and project documentation need to be reviewed together.
